Obituary of Vernon R. James Peoria - Vernon R. James, 80, of Peoria , died 12:08 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2002 , at OSF St. Clare Home , Peoria . Born September 16, 1922 , in Greenview , Illinois , the son of John Love and Ruby Rayburn James, he married Roberta May "Bobbie" Weaver July 27, 1946 , in Peoria . She survives. Also surviving are 2 sons , John R. (and Marcella) James of Peoria, IL, and Jerry L. (and Ronna) James of East Peoria, IL; 2 grandsons , Christopher James & Rob James; and 1 great-grandson , Ian James. His parents, one sister, Beulah Peterson, and one brother, Lawrence "Larry" James preceded him in death. He worked as a pressman for Bemis Bag Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1984. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the 1 st Infantry. He was a member of AMVETS Post #64 of Peoria and was a honorary member of the American Legion Post, Greenview. He bowled on the Bemis Bowling League for many years until retiring. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will at Noon Saturday, January 11, 2003 , at Glen Oak Christian Church. Rev. Dr. Paul B. Isom will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Private burial of ashes will be in Springdale Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Oak Christian Church, 1115 E. Republic Ave., Peoria , IL 61603 , or to OSF St. Francis Hospice Services.
