Obituary of James M. Potter
Edelstein - James M. Potter, 84, a life-long resident of Edelstein, died at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002 , at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria.
Born February 12, 1918 , in Edelstein, the son of Bert and Grace Vars Potter, he married Eileen Aten on January 21, 1940 , in Peoria . She preceded him in death on May 5, 1994 , in Peoria , IL .
Surviving are 2 sons , Craig A. (and Brenda) Potter, and Kirk J. (and Nancy) Potter, both of Chillicothe ; 3 grandchildren ; and 2 sisters , Helen Rench of Carmel , IN , and Virginia (and Robert) Pierson of Edelstein , IL .
A WWII US Navy veteran, he served in the South Pacific Theatre in the Seabees. He was co-owner and manager of the Hub Ballroom in Edelstein, which his father originally built in 1938, from 1956 until retiring in 1975. He was also co-owner of Potter Implement Co., Edelstein.
He was a member of the former Lawn Ridge Lodge #415, AF&AM, now Princeville Lodge #360, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria , and Mohammed Temple, Shrine. He was the caretaker of West Hallock Cemetery for many years.
He was a member of Edelstein Congregational UCC Church, Edelstein, where services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002 . Rev. Richard Sather and Nollan Harwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in West Hallock Cemetery , rural Edelstein.
