Obituary of Benton Pullen
Princeville - Benton Pullen, 83, formerly of Princeville, died at 3:43 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2002 , at Heartland Health Care Center, Henry, where he had been a resident.
Born January 12, 1919 , in Dunlap , Illinois , the son of William and Lillian Turner Pullen, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Walters on August 20, 1947 , in Peoria . She died December 13, 2001 , in Peoria .
Surviving are 2 daughters , Diane (and Dan) Day of Princeville , IL , and Judy (and Tony) Mast of Hendersonville , TN; 2 granddaughters ; 3 grandsons ; 1 great-granddaughter ; and 2 great-grandsons ; 1 sister , Grace (and Roland) Lemm of Peoria, IL; and 1 brother , Robert Pullen of Princeville , IL . His parents, twin sons, David and Michael Pullen, four sisters and five brothers, including his twin, Byron, preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the 3 rd division in Hawaii , Scotland , England , France , and Germany in the Battle of Bulge, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart as a Master Sergeant.
He served as Postmaster in Princeville, from 1959 to 1982. He was a member of the Princeville American Legion Post 248 since 1946 and was past commander. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Akron/Princeville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Chief and Trustee of the Board. He was also a member of the Princeville United Methodist Church , Princeville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2002 , at Princeville United Methodist Church . Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens , Peoria , with military rites conducted by Princeville American Legion Post 248.
