Obituary of Walter S. Smith

Edelstein - Walter S. Smith, 89, of rural Edelstein, died 12:25 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2002 , at OSF St. Francis Medical Center , Peoria .

Born January 31, 1913 , in Alta , Illinois , the son of Sumner and Mary Shaw Smith, he married Ethel M. Campbell on January 19, 1935 , in Walnut Grove , Illinois . She died February 11, 2000 , in Peoria .

Surviving is 1 daughter , Judy Mrazek of rural Edelstein, Illinois, 3 granddaughters , Holly (and Jerry) DeMott of Edelstein, IL, Lori Mrazek of Dunlap, IL, and Annetta Mrazek of Edelstein, IL; and 4 great-grandchildren . His parents preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. He worked in the shipping department at Caterpillar retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Alta Presbyterian Church, Alta , IL .

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2002 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will be in Mt. Hawley Cemetery , Peoria .
