Obituary of Robert L. Viehmeyer, Jr.
Peoria - Robert L. Viehmeyer, Jr, 61, of Peoria , died at 4:35 pm Wednesday, September 11, 2002 , at OSF St. Francis Medical Center , where he had been a patient since September 8 th .
Born June 1, 1941 , in Peoria , the son of Robert L. and Dorothy L. Hybarger Viehmeyer, Sr., he married Margaret H. (Peggy) O'Toole on August 18, 1962 , in Alexandria , VA.
She survives, along with his mother , of Spring Bay, IL, 1 son , Steven Gregory (and Michelle) Viehmeyer of Portland, OR; 2 granddaughters ; and 2 sisters , Susan (and Jack) Griswold of Spring Bay, IL, and Sandra (and Keith) Bright of Florence, AL. His father preceded him in death in 1997.
A graduate of St. Thomas School in Peoria Heights and a 1960 graduate of Spaulding Academy , Peoria , he recorded under the name of "Bobby Lee" on the Decca record label. He recorded several rock & roll hits, including "Just Beginning" which was a #1 Billboard hit in 1961. Other top hits included "Sugar Love" and "Little Flame". He also appeared on Dick Clark's American Bandstand.
He co-owned and operated Vee-John Publishing, working primarily in sales. He was a former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Peoria Heights , where he was active in the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral mass will be said 10:30 AM Saturday, September 14, 2002 , at St. Mary's Church, Kickapoo. Rev. Patrick Riordan will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kickapoo.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
