Obituary of Emily M. Bouton

Princeville - Emily M. Bouton, 98, of Princeville, died 9:43 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003 , at Rosewood Care Center , Peoria .

Born October 29, 1904 , in Dunlap , Illinois , the daughter of Harry L. and Margaret Keady Matthews, she married Harold R. Bouton on June 25, 1925 , in Princeville. He died December 7, 1995 , in Chillicothe , Illinois . Her parents, one infant sister, and one sister, Eleanor Matthews, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are 1 son , Rev. Robert L. (and Sherrie) Bouton of Cedar Rapids, IA; 1 granddaughter, Ann (and Jim) Berry of Iowa City, IA; 1 great-grandson, Austin Berry ; 1 brother, John (and Ruth) Matthews of St. Charles, MO; 1 nephew, Rev. John R. (and Pat) Matthews of Johnstown, OH; as well as several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Dwight Stokes of Stewart , TN , who was raised like a son in the Bouton home for several years. Others very close to her are caregivers Lila Catton, Timie Sue Rasmussen, Margaret Sibley, many neighbors, and her church family.

A graduate of Princeville High School , she received her teaching certificate from the Normal School Program, Normal , IL . She taught for many years at Rice, Henry, Goodhope, Adams, and Streitmatter schools, all in the Princeville area. She later was the librarian at the Lillie M. Evans Memorial Library. She was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003 , at her church. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. A private burial of ashes will take place in Prospect Cemetery , Dunlap, at a later date.
