Obituary of Jack Powell
Edelstein - Jack Powell, 71, of rural Edelstein, since 1960 died at 1:51 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003 , at his residence.
Born January 10, 1932 , in Canton , Illinois , the son of Edward and Daisy Howard Powell, he married Darlene Smith Vancil on August 31, 1956 , in Peoria , IL . She survives.
Also surviving are 1 son, Lloyd (and Melanie) Vancil of Milpitas, CA; 5 daughters, Jan Simpson of Tallahassee, FL, Connie (and Brad) Harbin of Oelwein, IA, Frances (and Alan) Wohl of Peoria, IL, Deborah (and Cyrus) Nimrick of Edelstein, IL, and Barbara (and Michael) Millard of Kewanee, IL; 1 foster daugther, Katherine (and Jack) Tisdale of Spring Bay, IL; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Junior Powell of Canton, IL; and 1 sister, Vivian Hackett of Cuba, IL. His parents, two sons, John Powell and Thomas Powell, one granddaughter, Sarah Wohl, and one brother, Perry Powell preceded him in death.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving from January 19, 1950 til September 1, 1953 , during the Korean War. He worked at Caterpillar Tech Center retiring June 30, 1989 .
He became a mason in 1957 and was a member of the former Lawn Ridge Masonic Lodge #415, now Princeville Masonic Lodge #360, AF&AM. He was a member of the United AutoWorkers Local #974, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA), and the Radnor Rod & Gun Club. He was a scoutmaster in Edelstein for 5 years.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2003 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Family and friends will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2003 , at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 8:00 pm . Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery .
