Obituary of John B. Sammet

Princeville - John B. Sammet, 84, of 335 S. Cottage Grove, died at 11:35 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2003, at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Born June 13, 1919 , in Jubilee Township , Peoria County , Illinois , the son of Carl and Leah Hauptly Sammet, he married Elizabeth Eaton in Wyoming , IL on April 27, 1941 . She died in 1974 in Peoria . Also preceding him in death was 1 grandson, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

Surviving is 1 son, Terry (and Bonnie) Sammet of West Jersey, IL, 1 daughter, Lorie (and Roger) Colwell of Elmwood , IL , 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Aaron (and Faye) Sammet of Highland Village, Texas, and 1 sister, Marie (and Sherman) Shane of Stark, IL.

He was in the U.S. Army in WWII, serving in New Guinea and Australia .

He was a machinist at Caterpillar for 35 years, retiring in 1975.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 , at Wyoming Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery .
