Obituary of Robert L. Smith Princeville - Robert L. Smith, 69, of Princeville, formerly of Chicago , Illinois , died 1:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003 , at OSF St. Francis Medical Center , Peoria . Born September 25, 1933 , in Kewanee , Illinois , the son of Robert D. and Ophelia Huxtable Smith. Surviving are 2 brothers , David C. (and Marsha) Smith and James L. (and Marian) Smith both of Princeville , IL ; 1 sister , Connie (and Roy) Goins of Bruner , MO ; and several nieces and nephews . His parents preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Hospital Corpsman HM1. He then attended the University of Illinois and began working in Human Resources for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, stationed out of Chicago serving abroad in Japan , Korea , Saudi Arabia and Vietnam , retiring in 1998 after 43 years of service. He was a Lifetime member of VFW Gold Star Post 1255, Princeville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be made to Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
