Obituary of Vera M. Campbell

Princeville - Vera M. Campbell, 88, 14719 N Mendenhall Rd. , died at 8:48 pm Wednesday, May 26, 2004 , at her residence.

Born June 18, 1915 , near Alta , IL , the daughter of Waring and Dorothy Trigger Carver, she married Robert E. Campbell on August 20, 1932 , in Alta. He died August 22, 1999 , at home. Also preceding her in death was an infant son and 2 brothers.

Surviving is 1 daughter Rebecca (and Don) May of Princeton, IL, 2 sons, Murray (and Patricia) Campbell of rural Dunlap, IL, and Robert Jr, (and Barb) Campbell of Dunlap, 1 sister, Irene Calmer of California , and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She attended the Illinois State Normal Teacher's College in Normal , IL , earning an elementary teaching certificate. She taught in several one-room schools for four years. She later was a substitute teacher at Wilder-Waite, Mossville, and Dunlap Grade Schools for 20 years retiring in 1973. She was the fourth-generation of the Trigger Family to own the family farm, "Idylwood", south of Dunlap, where her son, Murray, now lives. In 1993, the farm was designated a "Centennial Farm", having been in the Trigger family since 1857.

She was a member of the former Alta Presbyterian Church, transferring her membership to the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville, after moving to Mendenhall Rd in 1953. She was a charter member of the Historical Association of Princeville.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery , Dunlap.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Cemetery Maintenance Fund, in care of Gary Pullen, 15113 N Rt. 91, Dunlap 61525, or to Methodist Hospice Services, 415 St. Mark Ct, Peoria, 61603.
