Obituary of Francis J. Castle
Princeville - Francis J. "Frank" Castle , 91, of Princeville, died 4:03 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2004 , at Rosewood Care Center , Peoria .
He was born May 2, 1913 , in Indianapolis , Indiana , the son of Charles and Mary Cordell. His father died in 1913 and his mother died in 1915. He was adopted at the age of four by Maurice and Etta Zent Castle , who preceded him in death along with four brothers. He married Alice M. Christy on June 4, 1938 , in Granite City , IL . She survives.
Also surviving are 5 daughters, Toni (and Jon) Bateman of Princeville , IL , Jerry (and Charles) Moore of Roswell, GA, Michelle (and Marshall) Wilcoxen of Boonton , NJ , Christy (and Everett) Smith of Peoria, IL, and Danielle (and Rob) Ingle of Princeville , IL ; 1 son, Charles (and Barb) Castle of Peoria , IL ; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from high school in 1932 at Bridgeport , IL , he and his parents moved to Granite City , Illinois , in 1934 due to his father's health. He began working for the Shell Oil Company in 1936, and in 1943, he moved to Peoria and worked for the Northern Regional Research Lab as a glassblower. In June of 1972, he bought a small farm and moved to Princeville, where he retired from work in December of 1996. He enjoyed remodeling houses, making stained glass windows, and he also loved to travel where his journeys took him to many different countries. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2004 , at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville. Monsignor Richard Soseman will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2004 , at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, with recitation of Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery , Princeville.
