Obituary of Lura C. Dixon
Galesburg - Lura C. (McQueen) Dixon , 99, a resident of Heritage Manor, Chillicothe , a former resident of Galesburg Towers , Galesburg , and Macomb , IL , died 10:58 p.m. , Tuesday, September 14, 2004 , in the Emergency Department at Proctor Hospital , Peoria .
Born June 16, 1905, in Bushnell, IL, the daughter of Theodore and Olive McQueen, she married James Asa Dixon in Bushnell on August 8, 1931. He died March 20, 1993, in Galesburg. Also preceding her in death was 1 daughter, Marilyn (Roley) Scoggan, and 1 grandson, Kevin Roley.
Surviving is 1 granddaughter, Kristy (and Tom) Wooden of Dunlap, IL, 1 grandson, Kurt (and Mary) Roley of North Aurora, IL, and 7 great-grandchildren, Thomas "Chip", Cory, and Ryne Wooden, and Nicole, Kathleen, Peter, and Stephanie Roley.
A 1925 graduate of Adair High School, Adair, she attended State Teacher's College (now WIU) in Macomb, IL. She taught elementary school in Warren and McDonough Counties until she married in 1931. She was of the Methodist faith.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2004, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Pastor Marc Brown will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bushnell Cemetery, Bushnell, IL, with Pastor Rick Lafary officiating.
