Obituary of Albert L. Gruner
Princeville- Albert L. Gruner, 87, of Chillicothe , Illinois , formerly of rural Princeville, died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 , at Methodist Medical Center , Peoria , where he had been a patient for about 2 weeks.
Born July 29, 1916 , in Akron Township , Peoria County , Illinois , the son of Leroy Gruner and Maria Fritz Gruner, he married Pauline A. Wishall on February 17, 1943 , in Chillicothe . She survives.
Also Surviving are 2 sisters, Evelyn (Ted) Goffrier of Princeville, Illinois , and Viola Bateman of Indianapolis, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
He was a co-pilot in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving in the European theater. While stationed in England he flew 35 missions over Germany , France and Yugoslavia . After the war he was a pilot for the Princeville Stone Company and served in the Air Force Reserve retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. He operated the family farm raising sheep from 1960 to1981 and was also an Independent Insurance agent for Blackhawk Insurance Company from 1960 to1990.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville, where he had served on various boards. He was also a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau, Peoria County Water & Soil Conservation, and former member of the Peoria County Lamb and Wool Producers Association.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. , Tuesday, April 6, 2004 , at First Presbyterian Church, Princeville. The Reverend Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home and also from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lacon.
