Obituary of Rev. Daniel B. Merrick, III

Peoria - Rev. Daniel B. Merrick, III, 78, a resident of Foxwood Springs, Raymore, MO, formerly of Peoria and Bloomington, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Born April 29, 1926, in Bloomington, the son of Daniel B. and Grace Coffman Merrick, he married Dagmar Gustafson August 8, 1952, in Rochester, MN.

She survives, along with 2 daughters, Linda (and Randy) Williams, and Karen Merrick, both of Peoria, 1 son, David (and Carol) Merrick of Olathe, KS, 9 grandchildren, Lisa (and Travis) Copenhaver, Weylin (and Cynthia) Williams, Emily & Jacob Williams, Bethany, Hannah, and Katie Fitch, Lily Merrick, and Daniel B. Merrick, IV, 4 great-grandchildren, Gavin and Dylan Copenhaver, and Tyler and Brianna Williams, and 1 brother, Frank (and Reva) Merrick of Danvers, IL.

He graduated in 1954 from Phillips University, Enid, OK, earning a Master's Degree in Theology. He served churches in Milwaukee, WI, Sandoval, IL, Havana, IL, the Panama Canal Zone, and Glen Oak Christian Church, Peoria, where he served from 1972, until retiring in 1991.

A noted hymnologist, he was a member of the American Hymn Society for over 50 years. He edited the Chalice Hymnal for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1995, in which he composed four of the hymn verses. He also wrote a book of hymn verses entitled "New Honors for His Name", which was published by the American Hymn Society.

He was a member of Raymore Christian Church in Raymore, MO.

Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Glen Oak Christian Church. Rev. Dr. Paul Isom, Rev. Randy Williams, his son-in-law, and Rev. Robert Brite will officiate.
