Obituary of Cpl. Ian Wesley Stewart

Princeville - Cpl. Ian Wesley Stewart, 21, of Lake Hughes , California , formerly of Princeville, was killed fighting for his country in Iraq Sunday, December 12, 2004 , while serving with Kilo Company, 3 rd Battalion of the 5 th Marines of the 1 st Marine Division from Camp Pendleton , California .

He was born June 22, 1983 , the son of Dana, Jr. and Dawn Bennett Stewart.

He is survived by his parents of Lake Hughes, California; 1 sister, Julia Stewart of Seattle, WA; 1 brother, Benjamin Stewart, at home; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Stewart of Houston, TX; maternal grandparents, J. Wesley and Dorothy Bennett of Mesa, AZ; 3 aunts, 4 uncles, and 11 cousins. His paternal grandfather, Dana Stewart, Sr., and his aunt, Margaret Smith, preceded him in death.

He was a 2001 graduate of Quartz Hill High School . He entered into active service with the U.S. Marines graduating from boot camp at Camp Pendleton , California on September 14, 2001 , and had served in Iraq since September 11, 2004 .

A memorial service celebrating Ian's life was held at The Oaks Camp and Conference Center , 18651 Pine Canyon Rd , Lake Hughes , CA on Saturday, December 18, 2004 .   Cpl. Stewart was honorably awarded the Purple Heart, posthumously.  He was given full military honors with rifle salute.  

Local funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004 , at First Presbyterian Church, Princeville. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 , at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow in Princeville Cemetery , with full military honors with rifle salute accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps.
