Born September 27, 1910, in Newtown, PA, the son of Samuel S. and Bertha Martindell German, he married Regina Taylor on December 3, 1928, in Metropolis, IL.
She survives, along with 2 sons, William (and Kay) German and Charles (and Kathryn) German, both of Princeville; 6 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and two long-time caregivers, Marge Perryman and Mary Watts.
Mr. German moved his family from Paducah, KY to Peoria in 1935 and worked for R.G. LeTourneau Co. In 1940 he moved to Princeville, establishing L.E. German Implement Co, Inc, a farm and industrial equipment business. He later opened German Outdoor Power in East Peoria , and remained active in the businesses until 1984, when his son, Charles and grandson, Greg, assumed the management.
He served as a Princeville village councilman from 1943 to 1946, and was Village President for 2 terms, from 1953 to 1960. He was past president of the Princeville Kiwanis Club and of the Princeville Civic Association. He was director and president of the Illinois Retail Farm Equipment Dealers Association in 1954, and a National Director of the North American Equipment Dealers Association. He was a 50 year member of the Princeville Lodge #360, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, and Mohammed Temple, Shrine.
He was an Elder and 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church, Princeville, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service. Entombment will be in American Mausoleum, Peoria .
Memorial contributions may be made to his church or to Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
