Obituary of Russell F. Hansen
Peoria - Russell F. Hansen, 81, of Peoria , formerly of Pontiac and Morton, (as well as Burlington , CO , Kirkman & Guthrie Center , Iowa ), died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 , at the Lutheran Home.
Born June 23, 1923 , in Pittsburgh , PA , the son of Henning and Hester Hugenin Hansen, he married Verniece L. Partlow on March 20, 1949 , in Menlo , Iowa . She survives, along with 2 daughters, Celeste E. Hanson and Yvonne L. Hansen, both of Peoria . 1 brother, Charles Hansen, preceded him in death.
Raised in Guthrie Center , Iowa , he graduated from high school there in 1941. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company of the Third Army under General George Patton. He began working for Caterpillar, Inc, in 1956 as a personnel interviewer. He was transferred to the plant at Gosselies , Belgium in 1967 as a Personnel Advisor. From 1970 until 1978, he worked in Caterpillar Labor Relations Department in the Peoria area. In 1978, he became the Employee Relations Manager at the Pontiac plant. He retired in 1987 after 30 years of service. In 1998, he edited "The Silent One" which was written by his daughter, Yvonne, telling of her experiences as a stroke patient.
He was a former member of the Peoria North Rotary Club and the Pontiac Rotary Club, and a former member of the Peoria Country Club.
He was a member of the Mossville United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2005. Rev. William Adams will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Dunlap.
