Obituary of Lee Ann Harvey

Lawn Ridge - Lee Ann Harvey, 82, of Lawn Ridge, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005, at her residence.

Born October 18, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Margie Kaminski Michels, she married John R. Harvey on June 27, 1943, in Norfolk, VA. He survives, along with 3 sons, Robert (Beverly) of Vail, Arizona, Roger (Linda) of LaMoille, Illinois, and John (Sandy) of Peoria; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; her sister, Lauretta Olson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her brother, Ret. Lt. Col. Daniel Michels of Soldotna, Alaska; 3 sisters-in-law, Consula LaFollette of Galesburg, Illinois, Anne Updyke of Wyoming, Illinois, and Nadine Harvey of San Jose, Illinois

After their marriage, she went with John to North Island near San Diego, California, and worked in Bing Crosby’s parachute factory for nine months. She went to San Francisco for one month, then for the next 1 ½ yrs until the end of WWII, she lived with her parents in Winslow, Arizona, working at the Santa Fe Railroad Harvey House Restaurant as a waitress. Their first son was born there. They returned to Illinois in October of 1945, and they farmed in the West Jersey, Illinois area for 2 yrs, Laura area for 9 yrs, and then moved to Mendota, Illinois where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in the Mendota Community Hospital, Lutheran Infirmary and Peoples Hospital in Peru, Illinois.

She moved back to the Princeville area for the next 35 yrs, doing private duty nursing in the Princeville, Chillicothe, Edelstein, Sparland and Speer areas.

Lee Ann was also an excellent seamstress and knitter, making clothing for her children and many others.

She was a member of various Baptist churches, and later attended the Laura United Methodist, and Blue Ridge United Methodist churches. For the past 35 years, she was a member of the Edelstein Congregational Church, where she served as a Deaconess. She was a member of the Eastern Star chapter, LaMoille, IL, where she held the Chair of Associate Matron. For the past several years she was the Lawn Ridge correspondent for the Princeville Telephone.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2005, at the Edelstein Congregational UCC Church. Rev. David Stamerjohn, her nephew, will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour before the services at the church. Interment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edelstein Congregational Church or the Blue Ridge United Methodist Women.
