Obituary of Paul D. Higgs
Princeville – Paul D. Higgs, 93, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center, Canton,
since March of 2004, a long-time resident of Princeville, died at 2:23 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2005, at Graham Hospital, Canton.
Born January 23, 1912, near Trivoli, IL, the son of Harry Bruce and Lena Pettow Higgs, he married Lois E. LaMay on June 21, 1933, at White’s Grove in Peoria County. She died on March 27, 2004, in Canton. Also preceding him in death was one great-granddaughter, two brothers, and two sisters.
Surviving are 2 sons, Donald Paul (and Margie) of Rochelle, IL, and Richard Harold (and Kathy) of Las Cruces, NM; 1 daughter, Marilyn (and Brian) Telander of Cuba, IL; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Harold Higgs of Peoria.
A faithful Christian, he was a 63 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville, where he served as an Elder for 27 years and Clerk of the Session. He farmed in Princeville Township for 50 years and his interest in agriculture extended to his serving as president and board member of the Monica Elevator CO-OP and his association with the ASCS Office. He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau and was also honorary chapter farmer with the Princeville FFA. He was a 50 year member of the Princeville Lodge #360 AF&AM.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at his church. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to time of the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
