Obituary of Dale M. Matney
Princeville - Dale M. Matney, 76, of Princeville, died at 7:50 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2005, at OSF St Francis Medical Center Emergency Room.
Born September 13, 1929, in Carrollton, MO, the son of Jess Frederick & Rose Lee Butler Matney, he married Mary Jo Hynson On September 22, 1950, in Carrollton. She died February 23, 2005, in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Pierson.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamela Matney and Katherine Matney, both of Princeville, and Sarah (and William) Watts of Houston, TX; 3 grandchildren & 1 step-grandson; and one sister, Jessie Lee White of Kansas City, MO.
Dale was a Korean War veteran where he served in the 101st Cavalry. He was twice awarded the Purple Heart. He worked as an inspector and welder on the Amoco Pipeline for 43 years, retiring in March 1992.
He was a 50+ year member of First Christian Church, Peoria, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He loved his dogs and his avocation of woodworking & carpentry.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Bruce Dobyns will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A private family burial of the ashes will be at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church or to Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
Dale never knew a stranger. He was a wonderful husband, father, & grandfather, and will be deeply missed by his family.
