Obituary of Leslie R. Millard
Edelstein – Leslie R. Millard, 85, of Edelstein, died at 8:50 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2005, at Manor Care Health Services, Peoria.
Born October 17, 1919, in Mackinaw, IL, the son of Charles and Eva Harris Millard, he married Martha V. Nelson on September 30, 1940, in Davenport, IA. She died January 16, 2001, in Peoria.
Surviving are 4 sons, Ronald G. (and Jane) of Peoria, IL, Kenneth D. (and Lynda) and Alan R. both of Edelstein, IL, and Stephen J. (and Shannon) of Princeton, IL; 8 grandchildren, including Chris L. Millard of Phoenix, AZ, whom he and his wife raised, 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Beulah Gehrig of Maquon, IL, and Dolores I. White of Edelstein, IL. His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre on LSM 252. He was present in Tokyo Harbor when the Peace Treaty was signed with Japan.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 42 years, first as a welder then later as a layout developer in the Mossville plant, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the UAW Local 974.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2005, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Pastor Rex Hendrix will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Speer, IL.
