Obituary of LaVerne G. Reicheneker
Laura - LaVerne G. Reicheneker, 86, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, for the past 2 years, formerly of Laura, died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.
Born August 2, 1918, in Peoria County, Illinois, the son of George and Lillian Blundy Reicheneker, he married Mary A. Nosal on March 4, 1939, in Davenport, IA. She died January 20, 1994, in Peoria County, IL.
Surviving are 2 sons, Frank Reicheneker of Elmwood, IL, and George (and Nancy) Reicheneker of Laura, IL; 1 daughter, Sandy Guingrich of Lansing, MI; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Helen Taylor of Laura, IL. His parents, one brother, one grandson, and two infant grandsons preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theater, Black Forest in Germany, and the Invasion of Normandy. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company and also farmed in Millbrook Township for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Princeville American Legion Post #248 and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Monsignor Richard Soseman will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to funeral service. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.
