Obituary of Roy L. Sauder

Peoria – Roy L. Sauder, 95, a resident of Apostolic Christian Skylines, Inc., died at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Apostolic Christian Skylines.

Born November 11, 1909, in Roanoke, IL, the son of Chris A. and Barbara Zimmerman Sauder, he married Gertrude L. Baurer on March 20, 1938, in Peoria. She died on November 10, 2001, at Apostolic Christian Skylines, Inc. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Joyce Sauder; a sister, Mildred Leman; and two brothers, Lewis and Willis Sauder.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Roy (and Sherry) Sauder of Washington, IL, and Steven Ray (and Vicki) Sauder of Sarasota, FL; a foster daughter, Shirley (and Don) Klokkenga of Northville, MI; four grandchildren, Jennifer Rounds, Barbara Hill, Amy Crowe, and John Sauder; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (and Grace) Sauder of Houston, TX, and Ralph (and Renna) Sauder of Sun City, AZ; and one sister, Vera Irions of Peoria.

Mr. Sauder first worked at Caterpillar, Inc., for 16 years as a draftsman, working in the Engineering and Planning Departments and then in Tool Design. He later was the owner of Sauders Colonial Shop in Washington for 26 years, specializing in Ethan Allen furniture and gifts, retiring in 1971.

He loved to raise all varieties of roses and was a member of the Greater Peoria Rose Society.

Mr. Sauder was a member of the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church, where he was installed into the ministry on February 9, 1947, and was ordained Peoria’s 2nd Resident Elder on January 3, 1965. He retired from active ministry in June, 1989, after serving as a church minister for 42 years.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church. Ministers of the church will officiate. The visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at The Wilton Mortuary, and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Peoria.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Skylines Charity Endowment Fund, Methodist Medical Center Hospice Services, or to the Proctor Hospital Foundation.
