Obituary of Maurice J. Winters

Peoria - Maurice J Winters, 91, of 1028 E. Maywood , Peoria , for 52 years, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2005 , at Maple Lawn Homes, Eureka , where he and his wife have resided for the past two years.

Born June 8, 1913 , in Peoria , the son of Clarence LeRoy and Viola James Winters, he married Hazel A. Peel on October 12, 1935 , in Monica , IL .

She survives, along with 1 daughter, Sally (and Arlan) Johnson of Hanna City, IL, 4 grandchildren, Bret, Craig, Julie, and Chad Johnson, and 5 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Adam, Jacob, Nicholas, and Zachary Johnson. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Ned Winters, 2 brothers, Dean V. & Glenn Winters, and 2 sisters, Vera Palmer & Camille Winters.

He worked as district office manager for Bergner's, office manager for Irion's Concrete, and comptroller for Meyer Furnace Company, all of Peoria . He then was a reservationist for Ozark Air Lines until retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Knife & Fork Club, Peoria Jaycees, Reunion Chairman for PHS Class of 1931, Toastmasters International, and was a Indian Guide Leader.

He was a member, Sunday School Teacher, past Chairman of the Board, and Elder Emeritus at Glen Oak Christian Church, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2005. Rev. Dr. Paul B. Isom will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Sunday until the time of service. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
