Princeville -   Elvin E. “Shorty” Bouton, 78, of Princeville, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

Born April 13, 1928, in Taylor County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Molly Nave Bouton, he married Bonnie L. Donahue on June 27, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville.  She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Teresa Bouton of El Paso, TX, and Mary Bouton of Maui, HI.  Preceding him in death was one brother, Cecil Bouton, one sister, Luella Barron, and two half-sisters, Lois Libby and Opal Terry.

Shorty worked for 23 years as weigh master for Long Rock, Inc.  He then was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for ten years, retiring in 1991.  He was an avid golfer and a 30 year member of Arrowhead Country Club, Edelstein, and a member of several bowling teams. He was a member of the Monica United Methodist Church.

Shorty liked to hunt and fish and gather mushrooms.  He was a “die-hard” Chicago Cubs fan and attended games in Chicago as well as Spring training in Arizona.  He cheered for the Chicago Bears and was looking forward to the playoffs.  Many mornings Shorty could be found at the local coffee shop trading stories with his friends.

Cremation has been accorded.  A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2007, at the Princeville United Methodist Church.  Rev. Marc Brown will officiate.  There will be no visitation, but the family will visit with friends at a luncheon following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monica United Methodist Church or to Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
