Obituary of Donald C. Gibbs

He was born April 28, 1924, in Trivoli, Illinois, the son of Glenn H. and Sue Colvin Gibbs, he married Martha Graves on March 23, 1946, in Fordyce, Arkansas. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David (and Margaret) Gibbs of Princeville, IL, and Duane (and Susan) Gibbs of Tremont, IL; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Jackson of Wyoming, IL, and Mildred Merritt of Phoenix, AZ; and one brother, Dwight (and Fran) Gibbs of Tucson, AZ. His parents preceded him in death.
He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving in World War II from February 1943 thru March 1946. He was a salesman for Stewart Hybrids for 40 years and a farmer until 1952 when he was disabled in a farm accident. With the help of devices made by him and his sons, he was able to become actively involved with farming until he was 81 years old.
He was a past member of the Duncan School Board and past trustee of Princeville Township and was a member of the Princeville American Legion #248.
He was a 50 year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2006, at the Princeville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery, Princeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church or Akron/Princeville Ambulance Service.
