Obituary of Marie Cunningham Gilbert

Princeville – Marie Cunningham Gilbert, 97, of Princeville, died at Toulon Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, Toulon, where she had been a patient since May 5th.

Born November 3, 1908, in Bradford, the daughter of Fred E. & Agnes E. Scott Ferris, she married Merle E. Cunningham on June 20, 1931, in Wyoming, Illinois. He died August 23, 1969 in Peoria. On September 11, 1976, she married Basil Gilbert in Peoria. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1988. Also preceding her in death were seven brothers.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley M. Wilson and Sharon (and Patrick) Morrissey, both of Peoria, and Sue (and Ray) Gilbert of rural Princeville; two sons, Shelby (and Joann) Cunningham of rural Princeville, and Stanley D. Cunningham of Laura; two step-sons, Ray (and Sue) Gilbert and Ralph (and Mary) Gilbert of Texas; two sisters, Darlene Scott of Galva and Julia Loper of Kewanee; and 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Marie attended Illinois State University, Normal, then taught in a rural school near Bradford. She later worked for L.R. Nelson Company until retiring in November, 1974. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Bradford.
