Obituary of G. Lucille Peel
Morton – G. Lucille Peel, 88, of Yucaipa, CA, formerly of 217 Sycamore, Morton,
IL, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2006, in Yucaipa, CA.
She was born April 14, 1918, in Dellwood, IL, the daughter of James Leroy & Emma West Reynolds, she married Harold H. Peel on October 21, 1939, in Peoria, IL. He died on January 1, 1993.
Surviving is one son, Robert H. Peel of Yucaipa, CA; one sister, Evelyn Hines of Washington, IL; two brothers, Ronald (and Mary) Reynolds of Germantown Hills, IL, and Albert Lee Reynolds of Germany; two grandsons, Mike Knoerle of Bloomington, IL, and Keith Peel of Peoria, AZ; one granddaughter, Kelly Reynolds of Peoria, AZ; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, one daughter, Nancy Lu Knoerle, one sister, Veda Meseraull, and one brother, Lewis Reynolds preceded her in death.
Lucille grew up in or near the towns of Xenia & Maroa in Southern Illinois, moving to Decatur and then to Peoria, where she met her husband while working at the A & P Store. Later she worked in filing at Caterpillar for approximately 10 years prior to her husband’s retirement.
She was quite active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship of Glen Oak Christian Church in the 1950’s and 1960’s and participated in many activies with Von Steuben School Mother’s Club while her children were in school. For the past 25 years, Lucille was an active member of nondenominational Christian Fellowship here in Peoria area and in California.
Lucille, “Auntie Lu” to her nieces and nephews, was first and foremost a stay-at-home Mom and homemaker. Family dinners were not complete without her delicious rolls. She loved gardening, was a beautiful seamstress and an avid quilter. All her quilting was done by hand with small even stitches.
Cremation has been accorded and private graveside services will be held at a later date with burial of ashes in Springdale Cemetery, Peoria.
