Obituary of Dorothy M. Stokes

Princeville – Dorothy M. Stokes, 88, of Princeville, died at 8:58 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

Dorothy was born August 2, 1917, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the daughter of V.L. and Elsie Webb Porter. She married Ray M. Stokes on October 15, 1935, in Matthews, MO. He died December 16, 1993, in Princeville.

Surviving are three daughters, Patsy (and Robert) Miller of St. Petersburg, FL, Beverly Noonen of Princeville, and Sharon (and Tom) Bradley of Rockville, VA, and one great-granddaughter, Molly Miller of Princeville, whom she raised as a daughter; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; and one brother, Doyle (and Dorothy) Porter of Catron, MO. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

She and her husband custom farmed in the Alta area, and then they operated the A&W Root Beer Stand in Princeville from 1956 til 1965. She was a member of Tower Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Tower Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6007 N. Big Hollow Rd, Peoria. Elder Terry Blankenship will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tower Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses or to Akron/Princeville Ambulance Service.
