Obituary of Mary M. Streitmatter

Peoria – Mary M. Streitmatter, 87, of Peoria, formerly of Princeville, died at 9:50 am Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Proctor Hospital.

Born December 18, 1918, in rural Tremont, the daughter of Albert P. and Louise Papenhause Luft, she married Paul W. Streitmatter on December 23, 1945, in Tremont.  He survives, along with two sons, Steven P. Streitmatter of Carnelian Bay, CA, and Michael J. Streitmatter of Fremont, CA; one daughter, Joy L. (and Kirk) Stuaan of Peoria; one brother, Paul (and Bernice) Luft of Pekin; and one sister, Lela Strunk of Morton.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Leonard Luft of Minier and Robert Luft of Hot Springs, AR.

For eight years she taught all eight grades at Antioch School, a country schoolhouse south of Tremont.  She was a Cub Scout leader, 4H leader, and belonged to both Tazewell and Peoria County Home Extension.  She loved to quilt, knit, and do needlework.

She attended Princeville Apostolic Christian Church where services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 14, 2006.  Ministers of the church will officiate.  Visitation will be held Friday, from 3 to 5:00 pm, then from 6 to 9:00 pm at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
