Obituary of Francis M. "Fran" Thompson

Edelstein – Francis M. “Fran” Thompson, 77, of rural Edelstein, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

Born May 11, 1928, in Bluff City, Illinois, the son of Chester O. and Gladys Crable Thompson, he married Dorothy J. Elwell on December 6, 1952. She survives.

Also surviving are 2 daughters, Rebecca (and David) Kunz of East Peoria, IL, and Jeannie (and Dana) Jeanes of Memphis, TN; 2 sons, Matthew Thompson of Dunlap, IL, and Todd (and Karen) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ben (and Florence) Thompson of Orange, TX, and David (and Evelyn) Thompson of Carrollton, IL; and 1 sister, Nelliemae Larson of Havana, IL. His parents, one daughter, Cheryl Ann Thompson, and two brothers, John Thompson and Merritt Thompson preceded him in death.

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War from January of 1951 till November of 1952. He first farmed in Lewistown, and then later in Rushville. He farmed near Edelstein from 1961 until retiring in 1993. He was a charter member of Chillicothe Christian Church, where he served as trustee.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Chillicothe Christian Church. Rev. Bob Hentrich will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and a half hour prior to funeral at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Dunlap.
