Obituary of Clarence C. Diver
Dunlap – Clarence C. Diver, 85, of Dunlap, died at 4:14 pm Sunday, February 25, 2007, at Proctor
Hospital Emergency Department, surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 6, 1921, in rural Princeville, the son of Charles William and Elizabeth Pickaver Diver, he married B. Lucille Stewart on July 14, 1945 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Glasford.
She survives, along with one son, Donald (and Pam) Diver of Dunlap; one daughter, Dolores (and Bill) Symonds of Brimfield; five grandchildren, Bryan (and Caelyn) Diver, Mark (and Tara) Diver, Becky (and Aven) Friday, Brenda (and Patrick) Kell, and Doreen (and Curtis) Smith; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Stewart of Wyoming, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Horace, and two sisters, Mary Walker and Eileen Wurster.
He was a WWII Army veteran and was a prisoner of war. He worked for Peoria County FS for several years, and then worked for Caterpillar for 20 years, retiring as an inspector.
He was a member of the Illinois State POW Association, and a life member of the National POW Association. He was a 60 year member of the former Lawn Ridge Lodge #415, AF&AM, where he served as past Worshipful Master. He was a member of Edelstein Congregational UCC Church. Clarence enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and rarely missed any of their many ball games.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 7:00 pm Friday, March 2, 2007, at Edelstein Congregational UCC Church. Ernie Russell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm until the time of the service at the church. Ashes will be interred in Princeville Cemetery in a private family graveside service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his church.
