Obituary of Carl J. "Cork" Donsbach
Princeville – Carl J. “Cork” Donsbach, 91, of Princeville, died at 12:35 am Saturday, August 4,
2007, at Heritage Manor, Chillicothe, where he was a patient.
Cork was born July 28, 1916, in Dieterich, IL, the son of William and Mary Brummer Donsbach, he married Estelle I. Hoene on January 26, 1946, at St. Michael’s Church in Sigel, IL. Estelle preceded him in death on April 28, 2004, in Kewanee. Also preceding him in death are one son, Jerry; three brothers, Herbert, Clarence, & Elmer; three sisters, Iona Kinkelaar, Helen Koester; & Gertrude Meyers; and one great-grandson.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth B. (and Diana) Donsbach, of Bloomington, IL, Donald L. (and Patti) Donsbach, of Normal, IL, and Marvin R. (and Linda) Donsbach of Princeville; two daughters, Diann (and Rick) Bush of rural Wyoming, IL and Cheryl O’Neill of Wyoming, IL; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Donsbach of rural Princeville; and one sister, Edna Will of Princeville.
Cork was a WWII Army veteran and was the last surviving member of the 35th Tank Battalion 4th Armored Division in the European Theatre, where he logged over 4800 combat miles in tanks. He farmed West of Princeville for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Post 248, was a Princeville Township Trustee of eight years, was a substitute mail carrier for 21 years on route #1, served on the Princeville Grade School Board for 10 years, and was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at St. Mary of the Woods Church. Monsignor Richard Soseman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 pm Monday, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, where recitation of the Rosary will take place at 5:00 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 248 & VFW Post 1255, both in Princeville.
