Obituary of June L. Hay

Princeville – June L. Hay, 80, of Princeville, formerly of Chicago Heights, Peotone, Tomahawk, WI, and Bloomington, IL, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at her home.

Born February 6, 1927, in Kirkwood, MO, the daughter of Jacob & Ruth Irene Weigent Lederle, she married Thomas R. Hay on January 1, 1949, in Chicago Heights.  He preceded her in death in 1992 in Bloomington.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Lederle.

Surviving is a daughter, Cheryl (and Rex) Hendrix of Princeville; 2 grandchildren, Justin (and Sarah) Hendrix of Normal, and Alicia Hendrix of Princeville; 1 niece, Linda (and Patrick) Molleken of Howell, NJ; and one nephew, Dennis (and Barb) Lederle of Carpentersville, IL.

June was a seamstress & sewing instructor for Singer Sewing Center, Chicago Heights.  She also was the bookkeeper & office manager for her husband’s optometry office in Peotone.   Upon retirement, June and Tom moved to Tomahawk, WI, and then later moved to Bloomington, IL, to be near their daughter.

An avid ice skater, June was first runner-up as the Ice Queen of Chicago in 1946, and was featured in a Chicago Sun-Times article.  

In 1951 June joined the Chicago Heights Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1964.  In 2001, she was given her 50 year pin through the Kankakee Chapter.

She was an active member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, where she served in various rolls, most recently in the sewing circle and heading up the SHARE Program.  She was a former member of the Peotone and Tomahawk, WI United Methodist Churches as well as the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5:00 pm Friday, July 13, 2007, at the Princeville United Methodist Church.  Rev. Marc Brown will officiate.  Visitation will be from 3:30 pm Friday until the time of service.  Cremation will follow, and burial will take place at a later date.  A fellowship dinner will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
