Obituary of Roberta May "Bobbie" James
Peoria – Roberta May “Bobbie” James, 81, of Peoria, died at 9:57 pm Saturday,
May 12, 2007, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Born May 10, 1926, in Peoria, the daughter of Robert Edward and Savilla May Schoop Weaver, she married Vernon R. James on July 27, 1946, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2002, in Peoria. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Calvin, Richard E. and Robert E. Weaver, and two sisters, Marian DuBois and Patricia Carroll.
Surviving are two sons, John R. (and Marcella) James of Bartonville, and Jerry L. (and Ronna) James of East Peoria; two grandsons, Christopher and Rob James; and two great-grandchildren, Ian and Emma James.
Bobbie graduated from Manual High School in 1944. She worked for Carson, Pirie, Scott, and Co. as payroll clerk, then later in personnel management for many years. She later worked for Scrip Medical Supply as office manager until retiring in 1989.
Bobbie was a member of Alpha Iota Sorority for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Southside Mission Auxiliary, AMVETS Auxiliary, and was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 42 years, where she was awarded the Silver Beaver.
Bobbie was a devoted member of Glen Oak Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as a deacon, elder, was a charter member of the Bell Choir, and member and past-president of Christian Women’s Fellowship. In 2004, Bobbie was appointed an Elder Emeritus.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Glen Oak Christian Church, 1115 E Republic Ave. Visitation will be two hours prior to funeral service. Cremation will be accorded following the service, and burial of ashes will be in Springdale Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Oak Christian Church or to the South Side Mission.
