Obituary of Bettye J. Reed

Peoria – Bettye J. Reed, 84, of Peoria, formerly of Toulon, died at 1:57 am Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

Bettye was born on April 28, 1923, in Chillicothe, the daughter of Howard and Elsie Ford Screeton, she married James L. Reed on January 11, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.  He survives.

Also surviving is one son, Craig (and Cheryl) Reed of Pekin; three grandchildren, Bobbi Williams, Tony Reed and Colton Reed; and four great-grandchildren, Bridget & Derek Williams and Samantha & Devon Reed.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Gary Reed in 1997.

She worked for Bergner’s in Sheridan Village for many years until retiring in 1986.  She was a member of University United Methodist Church, Peoria.

Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be 2:30 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at Brimfield Cemetery.  Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate. 

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or TAPS.
