Obituary of Elizabeth "Liz" Hurst Stewart

Princeville - Elizabeth "Liz" Hurst Stewart, age 82, of Houston, TX, former long time
resident of Princeville, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 in Houston.

She was born on July 4, 1925 in Augusta, GA, a daughter of Malcolm and Margaret Hurst.
She graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She met Dana Stewart when he was a
pilot-in-training in Augusta and they were married on Aug. 25, 1945. She also received a
Masters of Arts degree from the University of Illinois.

Liz and Dana moved to Princeville in 1946 where they raised a family of four. Liz
wrote four books celebrating family life on the farm. She was a noted public speaker, a
columnist for the Illinois Agri News and had a program on Bradley University's public
radio station.   Her humorous and homespun philosophy appealed to all walks of life.

While living in Princeville, Liz was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of
Princeville, having served on the Presbyterial and Synodical boards.  In 1957 she
organized the Princeville Women's Club and was the past president of the Central Illinois
Branch of American Penwomen.  In addition, she was a member of the American Legion Post
248, Homemaker's Extension, and PEO.  Liz served on the advisory board of the Three
Sisters Park in Chillicothe and the Lillie M. Evans Memorial Library in Princeville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dana; one daughter, Margaret Newman Smith;
and one grandson, Ian Wesley Stewart.

Liz is survived by her sister, Katherine Anderson of Nashville, TN; one son, Dana
Stewart, Jr. of Lake Hughes, CA; two daughters, Ann Sledge of Houston, TX and Nancy
Lowenthal of Chicago, IL; and five grandchildren.

Liz often said, "If you love life, it will love you right back."  She had an
enthusiasm for living and a gift for sharing that enthusiasm with others.  Her quick wit
and insight impacted many lives.

Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Princeville, 339 S. Santa
Fe, from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, Dec. 14th. A graveside service at the Princeville Cemetery
will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, Dec. 15th.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Princeville.
