Obituary of Arlys Mafra Streitmatter Conrad

Speer – Arlys Mafra Streitmatter Conrad died Thursday afternoon, September 6, 2007, at her residence in Chicago.

She was born April 9, 1922, in Peoria, the daughter Of Louis H. & E. Veda Grove Streitmatter.  She grew up on the family farm at Speer, Illinois, and attended local grade schools, graduated from Princeville High School and the University of Illinois in 1944.

She spent 38 years in business life, including 23 years as Corporate Secretary at S & C Electric Company in Chicago.

She married John R. Conrad in Evanston, Illinois on April 11, 1958.  He preceded her in death on August 30, 2005.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

During her life, she was an extensive traveler, a member of the Chicago Farmers, The Chicago Council of Foreign Relations, the Council of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, the Executives’ Club of Chicago, the University of Illinois Foundation, the University of Illinois President’s Council, and the Creve Coeur Club of Peoria.  She also served ten years on the Board of the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago.

During her retirement years, she became an active farmer at her centennial farm near Speer, Illinois and a firm believer in the family farm.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at the Princeville United Methodist Church.  Rev. Rex Hendrix, Lynette Marshall, and Phil Thompson will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
