Obituary of Freida B. Streitmatter

Edelstein – Freida B. Streitmatter, 91, of rural Edelstein, died at 8:00 am Monday, May 7, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

Born August 24, 1915, in Peoria County, the daughter of Albert and Rosa Schaer, she married Rudolph A. Streitmatter on November 27, 1941, in Peoria.  He died April 4, 1989, in Peoria.  Also preceding her in death was one sister and one brother.

Surviving is a son, James Streitmatter of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Schoonover of East Peoria, Eileen Allen of Pekin, and Clara (and Jack) Kleinschmidt of Canton; and two brothers, Paul (and Thelma) Schaer of Germantown Hills, and John (and Evelyn) Schaer of East Peoria.  There are many nieces and nephews also surviving.

Prior to her marriage to Rudy, Freida worked keeping house for several Peoria families.  She was a member of the Radnor Grange and the West Hallock Club.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Chillicothe, where services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 11, 2007.  Rev. Steven Mall will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and also a half hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.  Burial will be in Streitmatter Cemetery, rural Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Heritage Manor, Chillicothe.
