Obituary of Robert D. Stubblefield

Peoria – Robert D. Stubblefield, 70, of Peoria, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

Bob was born March 4, 1936, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Harley M. and Pearl L. Clausen Stubblefield.  He married Margaret E. Janes on June 14, 1958, in Mattoon, IL.  She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey R. (and Tammy) Stubblefield of Peoria, Curtis L. (and Kathy) Stubblefield of Monument, CO, and Sgt. Douglas R. Stubblefield stationed with the USMC at Camp Lejeune, NC; one adopted daughter, Rev. Patricia L. Jones of Jacksonville; three grandsons, Colin and Kyle Stubblefield of Monument, CO, and Joshua Stubblefield of Peoria; three step-granddaughters, Misty (and Michael) Persich, Heather (and Marcus) Gibson, and Nicole (and Matthew) Billington, all of Peoria; two step great-grandchildren, Noah and Grace Persich of Peoria; one brother, Richard (and Mary Lee) Stubblefield of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob graduated from with a B.S. in chemistry and mathematics from Eureka College.  He worked as a research chemist for the Northern Regional Research Center (USDA) for 31 years, retiring in 1989.  He received the Unit Award for Distinguished Service from the USDA in 1980.  Bob most recently worked for the Illini Golf Shop.  He was an avid golfer and fisherman who made custom fishing rods.  He was scoutmaster for Troop #31 and served in many other capacities with the Boy Scouts of America.  He received the Alumni Award from Eureka College.  Bob was a devoted and active member of Glen Oak Christian Church, serving in many leadership positions including chairman of the board.  He sang in the church choir and was recently awarded elder emeritus.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Glen Oak Christian Church, 1115 East Republic Street.  Rev. Randy Williams will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church.  Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Oak Christian Church Dan Merrick Music Library and Chapel, Eureka College, or Boy Scouts of America.

Arrangements are by Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home in Princeville.
