Also surviving are one son, Troy (and Rebecca) Varvil of Lacon; one daughter, Jill (and John) Arena of Chicago; four grandchildren, Adam & Nick Varvil and Joey & Jenny Arena; three brothers, Ted Varvil of Rockford, Terry (and Sheila) Varvil of Brandon, FL, and Tim (and Cindy) Varvil of Peoria; and two sisters, Tammy Cox of Peoria, and Patricia (and Bob) Whatt of the State of Washington.  His parents preceded him in death.

Tom was a United States Army Veteran, serving three years in France.  He worked as a carpenter and millwright through Carpenter’s Local #183 in the Peoria area until 1986, when he moved to Chicago to work as the Director & Operations Manager for the Metro Divisional Headquarters of the Salvation Army, retiring in 2006.
