Obituary of Richard "Dick" Archer Princeville – Richard “Dick” Archer, 86, of Princeville, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, Richard was born March 24, 1921, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Ruth Punneo Archer, he married Betty L. Mitchell on June 26, 1947, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Ruth (and Lee) Schelkopf of Brimfield, IL; two grandsons, Sean (and Rebecca) Schelkopf of Morton, IL, and Eric Schelkopf of Kewanee, IL; and one great-granddaughter, Tess Schelkopf. His parents and one brother, Gaylen Archer preceded him in death. Richard was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in Japan. He first worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation, where he ran a road maintainer. Later he worked for 37 years for KLP Construction Company in Peoria, working in natural gas pipeline construction. He was a member of Laborers Local #165, Peoria; VFW #4724 Elmwood; Princeville Lodge #360 AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and the Mohammed Temple, Shrine. Richard was a 50 year member of the Akron/Princeville Fire Department and he served on the Princeville Town Board for 24 years. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Akron/Princeville Fire Department or First Presbyterian Church, Princeville.
