Obituary of Marie G. Greene

Princeville – Marie G. Greene, 97, of Princeville, died at 8:26 am Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

Marie was born September 16, 1910, in Johnston City, Illinois, the daughter of Gus and Ethel Newton Grant.  At 17 years of age she moved to Chicago, where she was employed at Western Electric.  During that time she attended the Chicago Institute of Art, where she met and later married Maurice “Mort” Greene on January 26, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois.  Marie and Maurice were married for 59 years.  He died January 17, 1992, in Henry, IL.

Surviving are one daughter, Nancy (and John) Schelkopf of Downingtown, PA; one son, Richard (and Linda) Greene of Chillicothe, IL; grandchildren, Bruce (and Thuy) Schelkopf of Zionsville, IN, Suzanne (and Joe) Perrino of Leechburg, PA, Matthew (and Jennifer) Schelkopf of Morgantown, PA, Jennifer (and Frank) Grimm of Carmel, IN, Gareth Greene of Milwaukee, WI, Lesley Greene of Peoria Heights, IL, Katherine Greene of Brandon, FL, Devon Greene of Dunlap, IL, Ryan Greene of Pittsburgh, PA, and Chelsea Greene of Chillicothe, IL; four great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Oscar Grant.

The family moved to Princeville in 1943; during her years in Princeville she was employed as a secretary for Long Rock Gravel, Princeville Canning Factory, Home Comfort, ALCOA, and Vent-A-Ridge.   She was a member and Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and a 20 year member of the Tazewell Doll Club.  For years Marie loved to sew, collect antique dolls, cook and especially spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Marie was a 65 year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, February 16, 2008.  Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, February 15, 2008, at the church, and a half hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.  Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
