Obituary of Pauline "Polly" Heward

Peoria – The family of Pauline “Polly” Heward, is saddened to announce the passing of their beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.  Polly died 6:50 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, at Hillside Village, Peoria.

The world was blessed on October 8, 1930, when Elmer Paul and Hazel Violet Flinner Bayer gave birth to their daughter, Pauline in Peoria.  She married her husband, Duane, on May 20, 1978.  She had always missed her parents and brother, Dale “Peachy” Bayer, who preceded her in death.

Her family, who was blessed to have her in their lives, are her husband, Duane Heward; three daughters, Pamela (and Frank) Hanson of Peoria, Rebecca Chapman of Peoria, Christie (and George) George of East Peoria; two step-daughters, Kathleen (and Mike) Lemon of Fresno, CA and Doreen (and Ken) Stachowicz of Bakersfield, CA; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Marcella Roszhart of Peoria, Jody (and Don) George of Dunlap, Christine Larison of Chicago; and one niece and many nephews.

Polly graduated from Wyoming High School in 1948.  She went to Brown’s Business College and had worked for Caterpillar for 35 years, retiring January 1, 1991.  There she worked as a Corporate Accountant.  Polly was a member of Glen Oak Christian Church, where she served on the board as Financial Secretary for many years.

Polly had such a giving heart.  She was very active as a community volunteer, working with RSVP, The Red Cross, and a founding member of Habitat for Humanity in the Peoria area.  Polly was very touched when she and her husband were the original recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award given by Counseling & Family Services.  That award has continued to be given annually as “The Duane & Polly Heward Volunteer of the Year Award.”

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Glen Oak Christian Church, 1115 E. Republic Street.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Following the memorial service a meal will be served in the church fellowship hall.  Entombment will take place at a later date at American Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Oak Christian Church Memorial Fund or to Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation.

Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank all of Polly’s many friends and family for all the prayers and support offered.  She held everyone so dear to her heart and you have added such meaning to her life.  With much gratitude….her family.
