Obituary of Dorothy M. Moore Dunlap – Dorothy M. Moore, 75, of Dunlap, passed away at 12:07 am Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Dorothy was born December 21, 1932, in Peoria, the daughter of John and Sarah Anderson Rosenbaum. She married David E. Moore on July 3, 1960, in Peoria. David survives, along with her son, David (and Judy) Moore of Walnut; two sisters, Margaret Wessel of Peoria, and Marian Johnson of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Payton; four step-grandsons, Jonathon, Garrett, Logan, and Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John & Jim Rosenbaum. She graduated from Woodruff High School and then Bradley University in 1955 with a B.S. in Physical Education. She received her M.A. degree in counseling from Bradley University in 1976 after taking coursework at Bemidji State in Minnesota. While at Bradley, she was a member of WAKAPA organization for outstanding senior women and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities for outstanding citizens on campus, based on school and service and selected by a board of faculty members. She was a member of the Federation of Scholars; Phi Lambda Theta, Chimes, choir, Future Teachers of America, and Pre-Med Club. She was also secretary of Sigma Kappa national sorority and was board president of WRA, sponsor of all women’s intramural competitions. She began her teaching career at Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School for five years, followed by Lexington High School for one year. She was a physical education and biology teacher and later guidance counselor at Princeville High School for thirty years, retiring in 1993. During her career in Princeville, Dorothy sponsored National Honor Society, cheerleading, and GAA, as well as being a class sponsor. She was a lifetime member of the Princeville Unit District Education Association and received the Region 16 Silver Apple Award from IEA-NEA. She was an active member of the Prospect Methodist Church quilting group and an avid reader. She also loved ceramics, the outdoors, and bird watching. She was awarded the Dedicated Service Award from the Mt. Vernon Ladies’ Association at the George Washington Pioneer Farmer Site where she volunteered with her husband for four summers. Dorothy was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, April 28, 2008. Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 pm Sunday, at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, is in charge of arrangements.
