Obituary of James L. Reed

Peoria – James L. Reed, 84, of Peoria, died at 6:00 pm Friday, December 26, 2008, at Proctor Hospital, where he had been a patient since December 23rd.

He was born January 3, 1924, near Brimfield, the son of Joseph & Edna Biederbeck Reed.  He married Bettye J. Screeton on January 11, 2942, in Kahoka, MO.  Bettye preceded him in death on September 1, 2007.  Also preceding him in death was one son, Gary Reed in 1997, and two brothers, Jay Reed and Warren “Bud” Reed.

Surviving is one son, Craig (and Cheryl) Reed of Pekin; three grandchildren, Bobbie Williams, Tony Reed, and Colton Reed; four great-grandchildren, Bridget & Derek Williams, and Samantha & Devon Reed; daughter-in-law, Lana Reed of Princeville; one sister, Mary Lou Troth of Peoria; and one brother, Darwin Reed of New London, CT.

He farmed in the Toulon area for 20 years, then worked for Pabst Brewery in Peoria Heights before retiring in 1982.  He was a Die-Hard Chicago Cub fan, and enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Cremation has been accorded.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 2, 2009, at Brimfield Cemetery.  Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
