Obituary of Richard J. "Rick" Schmitt

Edwards – Richard J. “Rick” Schmitt, Jr., 50, of Edwards, died 9:48 am Sunday, January 20, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Rick was born November 23, 1957, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Richard and Joan Noonen Schmitt.

Surviving are his parents of Edwards; one son, Benjamin Schmitt of Brimfield; one daughter, Brittany (and Chad) McGinn of Princeville; three sisters, Nancy (and William) Foreman and Barbara (and Kenneth) Kelch both of Edwards, and Jane (and Gregory) Gudat of Peoria; one brother, John Schmitt of Peoria; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Bear.  One brother, Alan Schmitt preceded him in death.

He was a laborer for PIPCO for over 20 years, before retiring.  He then worked as a construction superintendent for various construction companies in the Peoria area.  He was a member of the Laborers Local #165 and the Kickapoo Sportsman Club.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside services to be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kickapoo Sportsman Club or a charity of the donor’s choice.
