Obituary of Viola K. Smith

Chillicothe – Viola K. Smith, 88, of Chillicothe, died at 2:23 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

Viola was born October 27, 1919, in Princeville, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel and Tillie Streitmatter Berchtold, she married Leroy J. Smith on February 27, 1978, in Tucumcari, NM.  He preceded her in death along with one sister, Gladys Starnes, and one brother Gerald Berchtold.

Surviving are two brothers, Walter Berchtold of Chillicothe, IL, and Lester Berchtold of Cave Creek, AZ; fifteen nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday.  Burial will be in Streitmatter Cemetery, rural Princeville.
