Obituary of Robert E. Stewart

Princeville – Robert E. Stewart, 59, of Princeville, died at 12:17 pm Saturday, September 20, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Emergency Department.

Bob was born December 6, 1948, in Peoria, the son of Charles F. & Helen L. Diver Stewart.

Surviving is his mother of Wyoming, IL; two sons, Thomas (and Leah) Stewart of Peoria Heights and Joseph of Bloomington, IL; three grandchildren, Nathan, Sophia, and Sydney; and one sister, Linda (and Melvin) Baum of Morton.  He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Gerald.

Bob was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the US Army’s 1st Air Cavalry, where he received the Medal of Valor & the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism.  The 1st Air Cavalry was the first division to receive the Presidential Unit Citation in Vietnam.  He worked as a truck driver for Ducky & Randy Ault for several years, then for German-Bliss Implement Co, last working Friday.  He was a member of VFW Gold Star Post 1255, Princeville Lions Club, and was a long-time volunteer firefighter with the Akron-Princeville Fire Department.

Visitation for Bob Stewart will be from 5 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home.  Cremation has been accorded and a private family burial of the ashes will take place at Princeville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for Bob’s grandchildren, which will be set up through Princeville State Bank.
