Obituary of Leland H. Whittaker

Laura – Leland H. Whittaker, 89, of rural Laura, died at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 26, 2008, at OSF St Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Leland was born on March 11, 1919, in Millbrook Township, Peoria County, Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Nina Hardy Whittaker.  He married Marcia Riggen on March 16, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA.  She survives, along with three sons, Harold (and Joanne) Whittaker of McColl, SC, Paul (and Mary) Whittaker and Dennis (and Marcie) Whittaker, both of Princeville; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward & Gerald Whittaker.

Leland farmed in Millbrook Township all of his life.  He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau, served on the Millbrook School Board for many years, was a Millbrook Township Trustee for 28 years, and was on the board of the Laura Co-op Elevator.  He was a member of the Laura United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Rev. Marc Brown will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
